If you’re on the TikTok app and you’re starting to grow a following, you can actually turn on monetization and start earning money immediately. TikTok offers several ways to make money from your content — including video monetization, live gifts, subscriptions, and more. In this guide, I’ll walk you through exactly how to set it up so you can start generating income from your TikTok presence.
Step 1: Open the TikTok App and Access Your Profile
First, open up the TikTok app. At the very bottom right, tap on Profile. This is where you can manage your account settings, see your followers, and start the monetization process.
Step 2: Access Settings and Privacy
Once you’re on your profile page, tap on the three lines at the top right corner of the screen. From there, choose Settings and Privacy.
Step 3: Switch to a Business Account
Under the Account section, you’ll see your current account type. If it says Personal Account, you might want to tap Switch to Business Account. Going through this quick process will give you more monetization features as well as access to advanced analytics (also called Insights).
Don’t worry — switching is free, and you can still post content like before, but you’ll have more opportunities to grow and monetize.
Step 4: Open TikTok Studio
Once you’ve switched (or even if you stay on a personal account), tap the three lines again from your profile, then tap on TikTok Studio. This is TikTok’s creator hub where you can manage your videos, see analytics, and check monetization options.
Step 5: View Monetization Programs
In TikTok Studio, scroll to the Monetization section and tap View All. Here you’ll see the different ways to earn money:
- Subscriptions — Earn recurring revenue from fans who subscribe to your content.
- Creator Rewards Program — Get paid for high-performing videos.
- Video Gifts — Viewers can send you gifts during your videos.
- Creator Marketplace — Collaborate with brands for sponsored content.
If you’re eligible for any of these, simply toggle them on.
Step 6: Check Eligibility Requirements
Some programs have specific requirements. For example, to enable the Creator Rewards Program, you often need at least 10,000 followers. If you’re not eligible yet, tap Notify Me When Eligible. TikTok will send you an alert once you meet the requirements.
Step 7: Track Your Earnings
After enabling monetization features, you can track your earnings at the top of TikTok Studio. You’ll see Estimated Rewards for the last few days and your current balance. Once you reach TikTok’s payout threshold, you can transfer the money directly to your bank account or PayPal.
Extra Tips for Growing Your TikTok Earnings
- Post consistently — aim for 1–3 videos per day.
- Engage with your audience through comments and live sessions.
- Use trending sounds and hashtags to increase reach.
- Collaborate with other creators to cross-promote content.
